Somehow the warm days and late evenings always seem to slip through our fingers faster than we would like. We can't believe that our favorite season is all but over. No need to fear we have a few more summer tricks up our sleeves to make the most out of the fading days. Check out our top five list of last minute summer treats to eat up before they are gone!
1) Movies in the Park
Tuesday nights with your hubby are a perfect mid-week pick me up and what better way to spend quality time together than to enjoy a film under the stars. Pack up a picnic and head to your favorite park in Chicago while you still can. Movies in the Park end August 29th but some of our personal favorites are still to come. "Purple Rain" will hit Millennium Park tomorrow with the fan favorite expected to air next week. You can check the full listings here for every movie in the park and its schedule.
2) Chicago Rooftops
One of our favorite parts about living in Chicago is the skyline and its incredible views. We love taking advantage of every opportunity there is to spend a warm day or night outside admiring our beautiful city and catching up with friends of family. Chicago Rooftops are a staple piece of summer for any city goer with our favorites being NoMi and the J.Parker. 3) Boat Cruises
If you love to kick back and relax while enjoying the sights of the city, then this a must-try before it's too late! If you like a little history with your boats then we recommend the Chicago Architecture Tour. However, if you're into grabbing a drink and laughing with friends, then we recommend one of the many Navy Pier boat cruises. To find more boat cruises that fit your style check out this list of recommendations.
Trade that skyline view for one of the beach and Lake Michigan while you relax and unwind at Castaways. This is one of our favorite spots when we aren't tanning on the beach or getting a jog in up and down the shore. Whether you bike or walk up and down Chicago's beaches or plan a friendly game of beach volleyball, Oak Street and North Avenue are two must-hits before it gets too cold and we are forced inside for the remainder of the year. Take advantage of the beautiful end of summer weather and get out there and enjoy the lakefront path while you still can. Trust us, you'll be dreaming of stick your feet in the water when it's negative 35 outside.
5) Navy Pier Fireworks
Sure, fireworks are reserved for 4th of July, but here in Chicago we love to celebrate the summer every Wednesday and Saturday night by lighting up the sky at Navy Pier. Take a stroll along the newly renovated pier and check out the new Ferris Wheel before the show begins at 10:15pm.
Even though August is coming to a close, we aren't letting summer slip through our fingers that easily. Break out those white pants for one last time and head on out to one of the many attractions that make Chicago summers one of the best.
