One of our favorite things about weddings (other than being the bride) is being the support system for her. Whether you are her sister, cousin or best friend, chances are you will be standing next to her on her big day. We've had our fair share of experiences of receiving this honor and while it is a ton of work to be a bridesmaids, it's so rewarding and not to mention, fun! In order to help you navigate the waters of being a great bridesmaids, we've compiled our experiences and thought up three pieces of advice we highly recommend!

Understand what your Bride Wants

You may already have a clue but serving as a bridesmaid means catering to all of the bride's wants and needs. After all, it is her big day and she's wanting it to be extra special and perfect.

First thing's first, understand what she wants. How many events does she want to have? Does she want you at all of them? Ask her about her ideal bachelorette party & shower. Getting her feedback will be an important step to planning and executing all of these events with the other bridesmaids. You'll also need to sit down and discuss how she envisions the big day to go. Remember to incorporate all of her feedback and wants into how you go about navigating the days and events leading up to her wedding.

Not only will you understand your bride more, but it will also clue you into the budget you need for the event and help you plan or have those tough conversations up front about the budget.

Understand how she'd like you involved

Are you going to be her go-to girl for everything? Or are you only attending major events? After you accept your invitation to be a bridesmaid, sit down with her and ask her to lay out what she needs from you. The more you plan, the better.

Be Emotionally Available and her Support System

Wedding planning can be stressful. Not only will the bride look to you and the other bridesmaids as her support system during this time, but it is also important to let her know that you are there for her. Always show your excitement and make sure you get her excited too! Check in after dress fittings, ask her how everything is going, and keep reminding her that no matter how stressed out she is that the ending (aka the wedding) will totally be worth it!

Most importantly, have fun and relish in the moment.  Being a bridesmaid is a huge honor.  Soak in all the special moments and be sure to tell your bride how grateful you are to be part of her big day.
